Start Up Teams, Mentors, and Organizers

In keeping with Connecticut’s “still revolutionary”, Hartford hosted a StartUp Event that focused on healthcare and wellness for people who wanted to experience what being an entrepreneur was like. Over 60 people registered, 25 pitches, and 8 teams were formed. The team members came from far and wide (Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, etc). For 54 hours the teams were taking ideas and turning them into a product or service to targeted audiences. With the aid of dedicated coaches/mentors, the ideas emerged into a viable apps, softwares or medical devices that culminated in a 5 minute pitch on Sunday night in front of 6 judges. In my opinion they were all winners. To learn more go to StartUp Harford. Also you might want to consider participating in the next StartUp Weekend in New Haven.

Here is what one  of the participants learned:

  • the initial idea will change
  • the pitch needs to get directly to the point
  • work as a team, everyone has past experience which can grow an idea to a different level
  • be open minded
  • discussion + visuals get the points across better than discussion alone

and from another:

  • Prove that you are addressing a market which is not crowded.
